Why Do Treatments For Really High Ceilings Cost More?

There are three main reasons that larger draperies cost more to manufacture and install: renting necessary equipment, measuring/installing trials and manufacturing costs. It is necessary to rent equipment to measure and install treatments on really high ceilings when an average man with a ladder cannot reach the location where the hardware needs to be installed. Typically, guestrooms have ceilings that are 8-9 ft tall, however, if ceilings are taller than that a ladder can be used up to 14 ft high. Once the ceiling is over 15 ft tall, a lift will be required in order to complete the measuring and installation of the window treatments. There are numerous different lifts which could be used depending on the site conditions. When renting a lift, insurance is required, which also increases the cost.

If a Lift Is Needed…

It will normally be necessary during both the measuring process as well as the installation of the treatments. Occasionally we are able to use lasers to measure larger treatments which would eliminate the need for a lift during the measuring trip, however, for really high and wide treatments, lifts are needed to ensure accurate measures are taken. During installation, multiple lifts are required because both ends of the hardware and treatments need to be lifted simultaneously to ensure the treatment is level and secure.

What About Manufacture and Install?

There are many factors which contribute to the higher costs of window treatments on really high ceilings which include renting equipment, intensive measuring, installing and manufacturing as well as extra scheduling and planning time. As one can imagine, twice the amount of time and effort is required for measuring, installing and manufacturing these massive treatments. Quite literally it takes twice as long to make a 20 ft drape as opposed to two 10 ft drapes because they are more difficult to handle and operate, therefore labor costs also increase.

Although they require added cost, such treatments make a stunning statement and are well worth it!
