How to Install Side Channels on Inside Mounted Roller Shades

Installing a roller shade yourself can be intimidating. We know you have a lot of things to juggle. Here at Quiltcraft, we love to help our customers learn as much as possible by making the complex world of window treatments simple.

For more on installing a roller shade, check out our YouTube Channel or you can read this blog post. Today, we are walking you through the steps needed to install the side channels. Take a look at the steps and don’t hesitate to contact your QC Project Manager for any additional questions!

If your roller shades are outside mounted, click here to see that version of this post!

Bracket In Place

Brackets are in place (see Roller Shade Installation Instructions for more details about this step).

Side Channel Installation

Position side channel to the rear edge of bracket and position the sill channel and confirm placement is accurate.

Send a screw through the center of the side channel to hold in place. Remove sill channel. Mount Upper and lower screws into the side channel.

Sill Channel Installation

Now that side channels are mounted, position sill channel with both ends touching the face of the side channels.

Drive the center screw through the sill channel first, then continue with the outward screws (left and right of the center screw).

When using “L” channels, make sure your side channels are installed all the way to the bottom of the sill with the “L” channel covering the bottom part. When using “U” channel in the sill, make sure you install side channels to fall above the top part of the “U” channel (see picture for reference).

Notes:
  • Our “U” channels are multi-purpose—they can be used for inside or outside, as well as side and sill mounting.

  • “L” channels can only be used for inside mounting (side and sill).
